SUNSETS are proof that no matter what happens, everyday can end beautifully. – Kristen Butler
There’s something magical about sunsets that make my day complete every time I see one. I can’t help myself but marvel as to how beautiful it is while watching the sun slowly disappear from the horizon. Such phenomenon is best enjoyed with someone special. Romantic if I may say. Don’t you agree?
During our trip to Santorini a month ago, Derick andĀ I got the chance to witness one of the most famous sunset in the world. Thousands of tourists flock to Oia just to watch and capture this event.Ā I’ve seen quite a number in otherĀ parts of the world and based on my observation people who love sunsets will just admire it discreetly. However in Santorini it’s totally different. We were quite surprised when the crowd began to applaud and the boats began honking right at the very moment when the sun kissed the sea goodbye.Ā PerhapsĀ it’s aĀ tradition in the island to do thatĀ everyĀ sundown as a signĀ that another day has ended beautifully. ExperiencingĀ itĀ was truly incredible and one of a kind.
My only regret was that we didn’t have enough time to explore other locations that also offer amazing views of the sunset. Anyhow, below are some of my photos taken from Fira and Oia.
Oia Sunset
Fira Sunset
There are many locations in the island that offer a good view of the sunset. Although many would say that Oia has the most beautiful views. The only downside in Oia is that during summer the place usually gets packed and it’s very difficult to find a spot to enjoy the sunset. For me the best alternative is in Fira which also has breathtaking views similar to that of Oia’s.
AsĀ I’ve mentioned in my previous post about Santorini, it would be better go there early and find yourself a perfect spot or make a reservation in any of the restaurants in Oia that has a perfect vantage point to enjoy the moment without any hassle.
OtherĀ places in Santorini to enjoy sunset viewsĀ aside from Oia and Fira:
- Go on a sunset-dinner cruise.
- Enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine at the Santo Winery.
- Climb to the top of Mount Pyrgos and enjoy the 360 degree view of the whole island.
There’s something about sunsets that are so magical. Also… Santorini! ā„

I travelled to Santorini many years ago and distinctly recall literally running to catch a sunset after dinner in Oia. Much like your photos, it was well worth it.

I’m a huge fan of sunsets and sunrises as well. Once I woke up at an ungodly hour and sat down in the freezing cold of the winter in Arabian desert in Wadi rum to get the best possible image of the sun rise there. The photos were worth it though. The pictures look great and brings alive another side to Santorini.
