Probably most of you don’t have any idea about Yanbu or have not ever heard of it yet. But would you be interested of learning something about this small city in Saudi Arabia?Β If you will check the world map, this place seems to be non-existent. You would need to zoom the map to see it clearly.Β Yanbu is located on theΒ western side of the Kingdom. It is a port city by the Red Sea and is considered to be the main port of the Madinah Region.
I’m not gonna talk about its history. However, let me take you to this side of the world and see why it’s worth a visit. Even though this city is nothing compared to big cities like Jeddah and Riyadh, Yanbu has its own charm that sways visitors to come and visit.
Would you like to visit Yanbu? Here are theΒ Β Top 6 things to do in Yanbu and photos that will inspire you to visit.
1. See the largest Carpet of Flowers in the world
Yanbu Carpet of Flowers 2017
This year’s Yanbu Flower Festival will officially open onΒ March 1, 2018.Β The festival will showcase the world’s largest Carpet of Flowers. The carpet has been listed in the Guinness Book of World RecordsΒ for a couple of times and has remained there from March 14, 2017 until now.
Beautifully landscaped gardens (Yanbu Flower Festival 2017)
The flower festival only lasts for a couple of weeks so you would need to check it out as soon as you can. I would probably post a blog about it after this one to give you a glimpse of this year’s flower festival. However it would be best if you can come and see it for yourself.

4. Learn its history and culture at the Yanbu Historic AreaΒ
The historic site houses several multi-storied ancient buildings, which are unique with their rare features of architectural heritage. These buildings were made of sea stones with wooden frames and roofs with date palm trunk.

Fronting the Historic site is the Yanbu Lighthouse and the newly landscaped baywalk.

I’ve never even heard of Yanbu and I never thought of visiting Saudi Arabia. It looks like an amazing place. I have been to souks in Morocco, so I bet I would like the one here. But the flower festival is definitely my favorite looking part!

The Yanbu flower festival is really quite nice. Too bad that Saudi Arabia as a whole does not give tourist visas unlike other countries in the Middle East. Otherwise, tourists can come here and see this Guinness record holder carpet of flowers in the desert. Thanks for dropping by π

Same here Johnny. I was also surprised when I first arrived here back in 2008. Very far from what I pictured as a city in a desert. π

Hi there… Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, a visit to Yanbu right now would not be possible on a tourist visa. The KSA government, at present, does not issue one. Only working, dependent, and umrah visit visas are issued here. Hopefully, they’ll open this country for tourism soon. π

This is amazing. Saudi Arabia is one of the countries I always wanted to visit but couldn’t due to the visa policy (although they might change that this year) and I always love to see pictures from travelers going there. The historic houses look amazing, and looks like a lovely city in general. If I manage to go there one day I would have this post in mind!

Everything about this place reminds me of visting Dubai! The flower carpet which is similar to the Miracle Garden in Dubai. The white sand beaches and amazing sunsets! I guess they are both in the Middle East, that’s why they are so similar. I’d love to visit here when it’s not too hot!

At present, Saudi Arabia is not your typical tourist destination. The tourists we normally get here are those who go on a pilgrimage to the holy cities of Madinah and Makkah. But you are right. Yanbu is a nice city. Thanks for dropping by Denny π

So the flower industry is a huge thing in KSA as well! The flower bed is truly gorgeous, and only last for few weeks?
The efforts of maintaining this exhibition is very impressive.

From what I know, the souks are operational already. Although we need to confirm this first. Yanbu is a small and quiet city by the Red Sea and it has its own charm as well. Thanks for the comment π

Really… my husband and I were also there on its first day. We had to wait for the guards to allow us to get in. It suppose to have opened around 4:30 PM but they allowed the guests to come in at around 6:30 PM. Didn’t know that you were among the crowd π Thanks for dropping by and I’ll be waiting for your article about the festival π
